It has been almost a century since the first I Mexican folk art exhibition, organized by Gerardo Murillo ‘Dr. Atl’ and Katherine Anne Porter, opened with the purpose of showing the country’s cultural richness. They worked under the premise that the modernization of arts should be taken as a national project, seeking inspiration in folk arts and demonstrating than Mexico is composed of diverse cultures.

Mexico is Mexico presents today, under Murillo’s and Porter’s same criteria, a selection of contemporary design objects created in locations so diverse, as Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Merida, Guanajuato and Taxco.

These objects are, without doubt, a reflection of the country’s present reality and diverse identity, defined by the historic bond that has linked artisans with design since the Mexican Revolution (1910 - 1920) to our present time.

Han pasado casi 100 años desde que la primera exposición de arte popular mexicano, organizada por Gerardo Murillo ‘Dr. Atl’ y Katherine Anne Porter, se inauguró con la finalidad de mostrar la riqueza cultural del país. Trabajaron bajo la premisa de que las artes debían actualizarse como proyecto nacional, buscando la inspiración en las artes populares y evidenciando que México se compone de diversas culturas.

Mexico is Mexico presenta hoy, bajo los mismos criterios de Murillo y Porter, una selección de objetos de diseño contemporáneo creados en geografías tan diversas como la Ciudad de México, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Mérida, Guanajuato o Taxco.

Estos objetos son, sin duda, reflejo de la realidad presente del país y de su identidad diversa, definida por el vínculo histórico que las artesanías y los artesanos han mantenido con el diseño en México desde la Revolución (1910-1920) hasta nuestros días.
